Equity Commons was honored to be invited to showcase our immersive Virtual Reality experiences as a part of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)’s 2025 “Navigating Change” Conference. The conference, held from March 24th to March 26th in Columbus, Ohio, served as an invaluable platform for showcasing our innovative contributions to healthcare education.
Our presence at the event was characterized by positive interactions and substantive discussions concerning the future trajectory of healthcare, with a particular emphasis on fostering empathy and enhancing patient experiences.
A key highlight of our participation was the opportunity to present Equity Commons’ immersive Virtual Reality training modules. Attendees were able to engage directly with these demonstrations, experiencing firsthand the transformative power of Virtual Reality in cultivating empathy and improving patient interactions. Participants completed a pre-assessment before experiencing the immersive Virtual Reality module and a post-assessment immediately afterwards. These assessments provided a valuable opportunity for participants to reflect on the Equity Commons Virtual Reality module, its impact on them, and specific ways to apply what they learned from it.
This form of immersive Virtual Reality training holds profound significance for healthcare professionals. The practice of medicine extends beyond scientific principles; it encompasses human narratives and tangible impact. By cultivating empathy through advanced tools such as Virtual Reality, healthcare leaders and providers can achieve a more profound comprehension of a variety of patient experiences, mitigate inherent gaps in understanding, and, consequently, elevate the quality of care and patient satisfaction. This tool can be instrumental in bridging divergent perspectives and advancing excellence across the entire healthcare landscape.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Association of American Medical Colleges and the esteemed conference organizers for the gracious invitation and for orchestrating such a truly impactful and illuminating event. This conference served as a compelling reaffirmation that medicine transcends mere scientific pursuit; it is fundamentally about individuals, their experiences, and the resultant impact. We look forward to continued engagement with conference participants and remain committed to introducing novel approaches to advance healthcare education.
