We are thrilled to share a recap of the impactful series of immersive Virtual Reality trainings provided by Equity Commons at the University of Pittsburgh.
Our Equity Commons team had the privilege of collaborating with this innovative institution to provide clinicians, educators, and members of university leadership with a series of hands-on Virtual Reality trainings. Participants, including clinicians, faculty, staff, and members of university leadership, actively engaged in Equity Commons’ immersive Virtual Reality modules followed by thoughtful discussion about applying what they learned to their own work. The trainings were designed to help participants increase empathy, improve communication, and drive better patient experiences.
This type of immersive Virtual Reality training is profoundly important for healthcare professionals and educators. In healthcare, increased empathy and improved communication have the power to drive better patient experiences and outcomes, fostering trust and ensuring higher quality care. For educators, these skills are vital in creating inclusive learning environments, understanding a variety of student needs, and preparing future healthcare leaders to navigate complex human interactions with compassion and effectiveness. By actively engaging with Equity Commons Virtual Reality modules and discussions, participants are better equipped to implement these crucial skills within their daily practice, ultimately contributing to a more empathetic and effective healthcare system.
We are grateful to the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) for hosting Equity Commons. We commend these clinicians, faculty, staff, and members of university leadership for their commitment to improving empathy, communication, and patient experience. Their dedication to these vital improvements in healthcare is truly noteworthy. We also extend a huge thank you to Aubrey J. Grant M.D. FACC, Whitney A. White, and Mia Than from our team at Equity Commons for facilitating such an impactful training.
