We’re proud to have been able to host an immersive Virtual Reality training for the reigning National Women’s Soccer League Champions Gotham FC! We provided Gotham FC’s players and staff with the opportunity to enter the shoes of a woman of color experiencing implicit bias. Through this hands-on immersive experience, players and staff gained new understanding and greater empathy for individuals from various different backgrounds faced with bias in daily life.
Following this incredible opportunity, Equity Commons Co-Founder and CEO, Whitney A. White highlighted her experience with Gotham FC’s staff and players saying, “I couldn’t be more thrilled by the success of this collaboration with Gotham FC. General Manager & Head of Soccer Operations, Yael Averbuch West, the players, and all of the staff showed such great leadership in being so open to the experience. Everyone was fully engaged and it really demonstrated the commitment that Gotham FC as a club and all of the individuals who are part of the organization have to equity.”
Equity Commons Co-Founder and Chief Equity Officer, Dr. Aubrey J. Grant added, “As the Chief Equity Officer of Equity Commons, I am deeply moved by the profound impact of our virtual reality (VR) intervention aimed at addressing implicit bias. Our VR experience provided a dynamic platform for training, enabling team members to immerse themselves in scenarios that challenged preconceived notions and biases. Following the VR session, the ensuing facilitated discussion was a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of equity and inclusion. Engaging with such a diverse and passionate group of individuals was truly inspiring, and witnessing the top-down commitment from Gotham FC’s leadership reinforced the importance of our collective efforts in advancing equity within the organization. This collaboration exemplifies the transformative potential of innovative interventions in catalyzing meaningful change and cultivating environments where every voice is valued and empowered.”
